Abstract

A chronic condition, whether preexisting or acquired, impacts life differently depending on the stage
the patient is in. During gestation, various physiological changes occur that may require specific
attention, as they can exacerbate the control of the underlying pathology. This systematic literature
review will address the main underlying chronic conditions, such as type S hemoglobinopathies,
arterial hypertension, cardiopathies, diabetes, deficiency anemias, and thyroid disorders. It will focus
on their behavior and management during pregnancy, providing an updated perspective on how to
optimize and ensure the well-being of both mother and child. Finally, preconception consultation is
crucial to identify potential problems and reduce risks during pregnancy.
