Muerte prematura en pacientes psiquiátricos, un verdadero enigma
Resumen
Los trastornos psiquiátricos son una alteración del estado cognitivo, afectivo y del comportamiento, que son capaces de alterar el funcionamiento de un individuo. Las personas que presentan algún trastorno mental a lo largo de su vida exponen un mayor riesgo de morbilidad y mortalidad por distintas causas.
El análisis de años de vida perdidos secundario a trastornos mentales han tenido una fuerte correlación con las lesiones autoinfligidas y las lesiones no intencionales, que se asocian también a la edad de diagnóstico y a las preexistencias psiquiátricas y somáticas.
Los Trastornos mayormente asociados a las coexistencias psiquiátricas que generan un aumento de la mortalidad, son los trastornos alimentarios, trastornos por consumo de alcohol y trastornos por abuso de sustancias psicoactivas.
En la presente revisión haremos un abordaje de las causas de mortalidad prematura en los diferentes trastornos psiquiátricos.
