Abstract

Surgical emergencies are pathologies that present in an acute manner and represent
an increased risk of complications and fatal outcomes for patients at different
stages of life if they are not detected in time. One of the main consultation symptoms
associated with pathologies that require urgent surgical interventions is abdominal
pain, which represents approximately 5% of emergency consultations in patients of
all age groups (44).
In addition to this, according to each age group, the clinical presentation and
diagnostic approach may vary, as well as its etiology according to sex and age of
life, which is why it is important to know the clinical and epidemiological differences
since ignoring these variations causes misdiagnoses or tardies and increases the
number of complications especially in populations with difficult diagnoses such as
pregnant women, infants and older adults, because of this throughout this article will
be addressed the most frequent surgical emergencies in each population group, such
as appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, among others,
and the most important clinical and paraclinic findings to achieve timely diagnosis
